"Route 66 - The Mother Road" contains images that were made while traveling from Springfield, MO to Santa Fe, NM. This gallery presents scenes of the historical Mother Road which began in Chicago and was the main path to California for the thousands who abandoned their homes and land in desperation due to the dust bowl of the 1930's. Photos from the dust bowl era might be called "Grapes of Wrath" scenes. Images of the "post war" pop culture of Route 66 are shown to depict the road at it's peak of popularity which ended with the arrival of the Interstate Highway System. This latter period of it's history was immortalized by the song, "Get Your Kicks on Route 66."
